New Panteg RFC

A Friday night rugby friendly away to our local neighbours New Panteg.

Not the result we were looking for, but maybe not to unexpected, some lessons to work on in our next training session as we prepare for the season kick off in September.

7 - 0 (6 Mins)

The Crows got off to a slow start, quickly going behind as New Panteg off loaded to one of the backs who raced down the right hand wing to put them ahead.

12 - 0 (12 Mins)

New Panteg extended their lead with a very similar move, quick offload, received at pace and raced down the wing to go over for a try in the corner..

The Crows started to get more of the ball and pressed the New Panteg line repeatedly but with the referee keen to penalise them for handling errors failed to turn the opportunities into points.

Perhaps because it was a warm evening, the strength of the wind was deceptive, with both teams being caught out on a numerous occasions for not throwing straight in the lineout.

19 - 0 (32 Mins)

Maybe against the run of play, New Panteg extended their lead further with another driving run, a missed tackle on the Crows 5 metre line and over for their third try.

19 - 0 Half Time Score

The Crows started the second half brightly, gaining a line out on the New Panteg 5 Metre Line.

19 - 5 (48 Mins)

Secured by Jacob Kinnear, the pack organised and drove towards the line, stalled and reset on three occasions, TJ Kenneally secured the ball to dive over in the left hand corner.

During the last 20 minutes, the Crows piled on the pressure, stringing together multiple phases and boxing New Panteg in their own 5 metre area, getting the rub of the green with the referees decisions they defended well, sealing off and spoiling when they could to keep the Crows out.

19 - 10 (80 Mins)

After repeated attempts by the forwards on New Pantegs left hand side, the ball was quickly passed through the hands across the field to Luca Natale who scored in the right hand corner.

19 - 10 Full Time Score

Well done to New Panteg who came out as deserved winners, they won the first half battle with 3 very similar tries and defended well in the second half, good luck for the season ahead.

The Crows were the better team in the second period, spending a lot of time in the New Panteg half, Jacob Kinnear dominant in the lineout, bringing down clean ball for the pack to form and drive towards the 5 metre zone, repeated phases on the line and then maybe getting a bit frantic and a touch of line fever.

Some lessons learnt, and a few things to work on in training, but this is the reason we have pre-season friendlies.
