03 September 2023
NHSOB RFC Vs CWMBRAN RFC

A GAME OF TWO HALVES.

With a large pack, The Old Boys started the game in a determined manner, making full uses of their dominance in the scrums.

7 – 0 (4 mins)

A line out 15 metres out, The Old Boys worked well together to drive a maul forward, keeping control of the ball and diving over for try.

10 – 0 (13 mins)

Awarded a penalty for a high tackle by The Crows 25 metres out, The Old Boys opted to take the points to further their lead.

10 – 0 (34 mins)

The Crows doing a great job in defence to keep the score count down started to gain more possession., awarded a penalty 40 metres out, Luca Natale put it just wide as The Crows looked to get some points on the board.

10 – 0 (36 mins)

A yellow card for NHSOB RFC as The Crows continued to be the dominant team for the last ten minutes of the first half.

10 – 7 (40 mins)

A scrum to Cwmbran RFC about 10 metres from The Old Boys line, James Sully picked up the loose ball as it came out the back of the scrum, first going to the right then changing direction with a quick hop and jump, he drove through the last defenders to score right of the posts.

Converted by Luca Natale

Half Time Score 10 – 7

The Old Boys started the second half the same way as the first, relying on the size of their front three to drive the ball forward when in possession and slowing it down when defending.

17 – 7 (50 mins)

Following a period of possession in the Crows half, The Old Boys had a scrum 5 metres out, taking full advantage of their weight dominance they pushed it over for their second try of the game.

20 – 7 (65 mins)

Following another high tackle by Crows 20 metres out, The Old Boys were awarded a penalty and looking to close out the game decided to take the points.

Full Time Score 20 – 22

With their large pack, NHSOB RFC were dominant for the first 30 minutes of both halves, but The Crows weathered both periods keeping the score down as best they could.

It was important to get a score in the first half to keep in touch and gave the coaches something positive to discuss during the brake.

NHSOB RFC were again the dominant team at the start of the second half, but The Crows fitness saw them over running The Old Boys in the last ten  minutes of the game.

If anybody wants to know what a PMA is, then watch the last ten minutes of the game.

Both teams were penalised on several occasions because of the new high tackle law, although it did look like NHSOB RFC managed it better than The Crows, something for the coaches to work on in training.

A big thank you to all of the travelling supporters, I think it helped galvanise the team during those final ten minutes. We look forward to seeing you next week as we travel to Garndiffaith RFC.
