YNYSYBWL RFC 26 v 12 CWMBRAN RFC

It was another pre-season defeat for the Crows in a game that they could have won bar for some ill-discipline.

Ynysybwl RFC are a strong physical team, and this was clearly demonstrated in the early stages of the game as they used this to their advantage and had the Crows trapped in their own half, although the defence coped well with the onslaught the penalty count against them was unusually high.

Ynysybwl RFC tried to build on their superiority preferring to kick for the corners rather than take points, but it wasn’t until the twenty second minute that they managed to get some points on the board with a breakthrough in the middle of the field and a solo run to score and take the lead 7 – 0

Cwmbran RFC continued to defend well as the half progressed when a skirmish broke out on thirty-five minutes after Lee Marsh was judged to have carried out a tip tackle on an opposition player, debatable or not, the referee issued him with a yellow card, Morgan Hall and an Ynysybwl player both receiving reds for throwing their handbags about.

With Cwmbran RFC down a player, Ynysybwl RFC scored just before half time with a conversion putting them 12 – 0 at the break.

It was clear as the first half progressed that Ynysybwl RFC were starting to tire, and Cwmbran RFC were in the ascendency at the start of the second half.

On forty-eight-minute Cameron Stewart dived over the line for a try duly converted by Will Graham score 12 – 7. Just over five minutes later Jacob Jerimiah drove over in the left corner to even the scores up at 12 – 12.

Ynysybwl RFC were quick to respond as two minutes later they scored to go 19 – 12 in front.

Cwmbran RFC were still in the game until some ill-discipline let them down a bit of a skirmish followed by some verbal to the referee saw them receive two yellow cards and put them firmly on the back foot, although they held out gamely, Ynysybwl RFC scored another try in the final moments of the match to finish off 26 – 12.

On another day we could have won this game, it was another opportunity for the coaches to access the squad as we build towards the start of the season.
